Afternoon Tea

'Afternoon Tea' is something which reminds me of the Jane Austen era. Afternoon Tea however, is a much more appealing trait of that particular era than petticoats or arranged marriages.

I love food. I love to eat. The idea of Afternoon Tea is therefore one which greatly appeals to me. A fourth meal mid-afternoon/an official name for the large consumption of mini treats?! Perfect.

For my sister's 16th birthday party, we decided to host an afternoon tea for her, her friends, me (as her only sister at home currently) and our cousin.

I'm not sure we realised quite how much work was necessary to insure its success but after weeks of my mammy and sister coming up with ideas for cute bite-size treats, the day finally arrived.

My contribution involved more cleaning up than I would have liked, making scones (for the first time in my life unbeknownst to my mammy) and arranging bite-size sandwiches.

The tea took hours to prepare and was consumed in about a tenth of the time.

I decided to put together a post of photographs to inspire future Afternoon Teas and for my sister, in particular, to be able to look back at her Sweet 16th in the future.

Mini chocolate buns with chocolate icing.

Mini apple squares. These had pastry on the bottom, then a layer of apple and sponge on the top.

Mini fairy cakes with a raspberry hidden at the bottom of each one.

Mini caramel squares. These are HEAVEN.

Mini oreos. The only thing which was shop-bought!

Not-so-mini scones. Served with raspberry jam and whipped cream, these were so good! (even if I do say so myself)

Rings of crusty bread with cucumber and smoked salmon.

Mini BLTs - circles of white bread, baby lettuce leaves, cherry tomatoes and bacon.

Mini tomato, pepperoni and mozarella pizzas.

Perhaps the most important element ... TEA!

I would definitely recommend Afternoon Tea and am currently working on convincing my mammy to host one every day of the week. (it's not looking good)

THIS POST HAS JUST MADE ME SO HUNGRYYYYYY
