Really, my absence doesn't need to be explained because this is my blog primarily, let's be honest, for my own eyes at this early stage in my 'blogging career' (*sassy*) but I have wanted to write a blog post for a while now about the main reason I have been abandoning this blog.
That main reason for my absence has been my new YouTube channel Caoimhe Chats.
I have always loved YouTube. If you think about it, it is truly one of the best inventions of all time. A platform on which millions express themselves, whether that be by covering the latest hit, vlogging their adventures through the Brazilian rainforest or creating comedy sketches using pieces of fruit.
It is where these days you can do everything from catch up on last night's match goals to today's headline stories to tomorrow's cinema releases.
Millions, perhaps billions of minutes of footage can be accessed all by clicking onto the next video and the next video and the next video and the next until you're sucked into the black hole of YouTube and find yourself watching a video about some weird parallel world where everything is made of cats called 'Kitty City' .... (we've all been there)
I have particularly enjoyed watching the likes of YouTube sensation Zoella, Tanya Burr, Tyler Oakley, Sprinkle of Glitter and Marcus Butler for the past number of years and with my love for 'performance' shall we say, have always thought of creating my own channel.
After talking about it for quite frankly YEARS, I finally managed to establish a new YouTube account 'Caoimhe Chats' at the beginning of June and have since been working on it.
My aim with this channel this summer has been to create content that I myself would enjoy watching and experimenting with different 'niches' of video content before perhaps someday in the future choosing a niche that best represents me.
So far I have uploaded a wide variation of videos.
The TMI Tag was my first video which I felt served as a good introduction to me and my channel and which was my contribution to one of the most popular YouTube tag videos.
I have since uploaded everything from vlogs, such as a full day vlog of my birthday and two of my family holiday to Kilkenny ( First vlog of Kilkenny Second vlog of Kilkenny ) to monthly favourites' videos. ( August Favourites )
You could say these types of videos are fairly typical of your average 'vlogger' but I like to also insure my own stamp is clear on each video by not apologising for or concealing my personality but rather by letting it shine through videos such as Pink Is The New Orange Is The New Black and The SINGING Chubby Bunny Challenge
There is honestly nothing I enjoy more than creating content. The satisfaction of those one or two views or comments is miniscule in comparison to those YouTube 'sensations' who have accumulated millions of subscribers and thousands in revenue.
However, my channel is my baby and any success it achieves has me beaming from ear to ear like a proud mother.
The name 'Caoimhe Chats' came about not just because of the beautiful alliteration but also because of the fact that I love to chat. Whether it be to any acquaintance I meet on the street or to a camera balanced on a pile of books in my bedroom, I love to chat.
The channel name lends itself to a series of 'Caoimhe Chats ...' I'm currently working on starting. With my first episode coming in the next week or two, I'm excited more than anyone else for another outlet for my ramblings!
And so that is why I have been abandoning this particular forum for my ramblings and why I have decided to change this blog's name from 'A Gurl's Ramblings' to 'Caoimhe Chats'. It all matches and that makes me happy. (*sassy OCD*)
I am definitely going to write a blog post in the coming weeks about the amazing sense of community surrounding YouTube, particularly here in Ireland but for now I will leave you with this introductory post to my channel.
